Last we heard from Fujitsu it was updating its iMac-alike desktop PC, but the company has also just snuck out the ST6012 tablet PC very quietly. Running an Intel Core2 Duo beneath a 12.1-inch 1280 × 800-pixel touchscreen, the machine also packs 2GB of RAM, Intel GS45 integrated graphics, up to a 320GB HDD or optional 64GB SSD, fingerprint scanner, all the usual wired and wireless connections and an integrated 3G modem. And it actually looks pretty stylish for a tablet machine. It’ll likely flick the switch of those of you out there who use computers like this to collect data in the field, and you might be interested to hear its pricing starts at around $US2,700, though there’s no word on when or where it’s out. Fujitsu Siemens looks like it’s about ready to launch the svelte Amilo Mini. According to IDG News, the company has announced a press event for August 28 at the IFA show in Berlin, and the signs and portents indicate a big reveal could happen at that time. The specs don’t really differentiate the Amilo Mini from the plethora of other ultra portable notebooks hitting the market these days, but it does boast changeable face plates (brown, black, pink, and red). Fujitsu Siemens’ latest line of LCDs will have a standby mode that draws no power, compared to the 1-6 watts of power competitors’ monitors draw in standby. According to BIOS Magazine, the technology will be included in the 20-inch P20W-5 ECO and 22-inch P22W-5 ECO, and consists of a switch in the power supply breaks when the connected PC goes idle, and powers back on when any key is pressed (essentially, your keyboard acts as the power button).
