Renault’s Auto Ballet of Destruction

newVideoPlayer("ReanultGermany_gawker.flv", 475, 376);The slo-mo car ballet has been an effective advertising technique for years, but you don’t often see those synchronized cars crashing into each other. Not so in this German Renault commercial, which builds up to some pretty spectacular wrecks. I don’t speak German, so I don’t know what it says at the end, but I assume it’s something like “Our cars look awesome when they crash.” [Neatorama and Jalopnik]

Gizmodo Crush-o-Thon 2007 Brutally Lays Waste to Outdated Gadgets

newVideoPlayer("crush.flv", 475, 376);We asked you to send us some gadgets to wreck a while back, and we finally got to the task today. The Geek Squad had a crusher set up at Digital Life, where they were being generous enough to break our tech products for free, rather than charge $49.99 like they usually do when people bring stuff to them. We put a whole stack of gadgets through there, and we were not disappointed by the results. It’s safe to say no one is going to be using these things again, ever. Thanks to everyone who sent stuff in, and enjoy the carnage. | Video by Richard Blakeley

A few weeks ago, I asked you to send in your old and useless gadgets for us to destroy. We now have a pile of gadgets on death row, and we’re gonna start going to town on them next week. All we need now from you lovely people is some help brainstorming some creative ways to send some gadgets to the junkyard in style. How would you like to see us get rid of such items as an old camcorder, an old smartphone, and an outdated gaming console or two? Let’s hear your most sick and twisted ideas; our favourites will be used for technological homicide.

This is what a melted Xserve looks like

Gizmodo AU

Melbourne-based tech vendor Designwyse had a massive fire back at the end of July, destroying their entire premises. Thankfully no one was hurt, but their systems were completely destroyed. Like this Xserve rack. Did anyone else know an Xserve has a gooey, nougaty centre that spills out when you cook it? Tasty! Another shot of the rack after the jump. -Seamus Byrne Thanks Ben Greig! USB-Powered CD Destroyer Mauls a Disc in Five Seconds

Keep that schoolmarm from perusing your porn with this USB-powered CD destroyer from Brando. In just five seconds, this hungry beast renders any CD or DVD unreadable, grinding in devastating circular scratches and resulting in a strangely beautiful coaster that reminds us of a Spirograph. galleryPost('cddestroyer', 4, 'CD Destroyer');

AU: I regularly have discs that need clean and efficient destruction. I usually knife the surface, inhaling nasty disc dust as I go. I think I’ll buy me one of these. -SB
