Popular vidchat client Fring isn’t content with the usual one-on-one routine. If you’ve got three other friends, you can all talk to each other (or over each other) now, through an app orgy of chattering faces.
Last you heard, Fring’s Group Video was still in beta – not anymore. Fring’s four-way video call feature has gone live for all Fring users, whether you’re on iOS or Android, and it works over Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G.
Fring’s testing out a mobile video party line, connecting four people at once, on video, for free. Free! The app will eventually be available on Android and (pending approval) iOS soon for everyone, but for now you can sign up to be a beta tester here. Presumably the only requirements are a smartphone and at least three friends.
Fring wrote us today with news that they’ve created a service called fringOut that allows for worldwide Internet calling starting at .01 per minute. The service is available now for Nokia and will launch “soon” for iPhone and Android.
Fring just updated their Android app to address the audio issues we saw (or I guess, heard) in our testing. Thankfully the update will fix the sometimes bothersome echoing issue and also offer significant audio improvements. Which is good! Also, the Samsung Galaxy S gains support in the update, so there’s now more people to experience the future with. [Fring]
I just had a video chat over 3G and it was the most amazing thing I’ve experienced all day. There was some lag, voice quality wasn’t perfect and video was sometimes jittery. But I loved every minute of it.
Yesterday a change to the iPhone SDK allowed for VoIP over 3G and we heard about the first app which’ll offer the functionality. Today another iPhone app, Fring, has begun allowing video and voice calls using Skype over 3G.
