Freecom’s CLS external hard drive series take an aesthetic page from cassettes and floppies of our already distant memory. Each 2.5-inch drive is minimal, durable and can be hand-labelled for quick reference to its contents. More »
Freecom’s just taken the portable hard drive crown with what they’re claiming to be the smallest and lightest 2.5-inch USB drive on the market now. Their Mobile Drive XXS comes in 160GB, 250GB and 320GB sizes, and is bus-powered for one less thing you have to carry around. It seems like the race to having the smallest 2.5-inch hard drive is kind of ridiculous. The lowest you can go is down to the bare drive, which is exactly what someone should release (complete with USB adaptor cable) and call themselves the ultimate victor in this competition no one cares about. If you don’t like choosing what you listen to, instead trusting your audio experiences to DJs at Internet radio stations, then the Freecom MusicPal is for you. It’ll stream 5,000 radio stations from your computer and play them out the built-in speaker. It also displays RSS feeds on its screen for some reason, which I suppose has some practical applications for someone, somewhere. It’s a bit too big to carry around with you, which makes me wonder why you can’t just stream the Internet radio stations right on your computer instead of relying on a secondary device, but perhaps I just don’t “get” Internet radio.
