Fisker Karma Hybrid Sports Car Gets Production Plans

6:16PM Kit Eaton | Once we learned that the Fisker Karma hybrid sports car would produce fake engine sounds we knew plans to produce the beast had to be underway. And Fisker today has announced a letter of intent with producer Valmet Automotive to actually build the luxury hybrid sports car. First vehicle roll-off the production line will be in early 2009 and will become the “first ever plug-in hybrid 4 door sports sedan to hit the market,” according to Fisker anyway. They’re predicting big successes, since the annual production is predicted to reach 15,000. Press release below. More »

Tesla Sues White Star Ex-Designer for Sabotage

12:45AM Matt Buchanan | Tesla Motors, maker of the much hyped (and well reviewed) electric Roadster is suing Fisker Automotive, the outfit behind fake vroom-y Karma, for stealing Tesla’s design and trade secrets. Supposedly, this pushed the sale date for Tesla’s four-door sedan, White Star, back six months, to 2010. Henrik Fisker (the eponymous founder) was hired by Tesla to design White Star. Tesla alleges he took the US$875,000 contract, sabotaged Tesla’s project with sub-par work, and then made off with their secrets and designs, using the money to launch his rival electric car effort. Fisker Karma Electric Car To Blast Out Fake Engine Sounds (Verdict: WHY?)

2:06AM Gizmodo US Edition | We already knew that the US$80,000 Fisker Karma electric car may make it into production in 2009, complete with a whole bunch of lithium batteries and a small gas-powered engine (designed to work only in case of emergency).
