Posted by Elaine Chow at 5:00 PM on November 21, 2008

Asus' long awaited all-in-one touchscreen PC, the Eee Top, is now out in the wild... at least in Taiwan. The 15.6-inch display "nettop" runs Windows XP and holds an Intel Atom N270 processor with 1GB of memory and a 160GB hard disk drive within its chassis. It also comes with a 1.3MP webcam, two integrated 4W speakers and a nifty little dimmable LED keyboard light.

The Asus Eee PC Bunnies Offer 8 Hours Of Battery Life

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 2:20 PM on November 7, 2008

Unofficial Giz Poll: If you went out and bought an Asus Eee PC after watching this ad, would you be disappointed if it didn't give you a full 8-hour battery life? Or would you just plug in the power cable and watch the ad again? And again?

There's no right or wrong answer to that question, folks...

How To Hack an Eee PC and Install It in Your Car Dashboard

Posted by Sean Fallon at 8:00 AM on October 24, 2008

One of the great things about netbooks like the Eee PC is all of the potential for modification. This particular hack comes to us via a Russian Eee PC 701 owner who managed to turn it into a carputer for his Honda Fit. With the monitor in the dash and a wireless keyboard in the glovebox, the Eee PC transforms into an XP-driven media device with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and (most likely) GPS. By the looks of things, making this hack work in your vehicle will be no easy task—and there isn't much to go on besides a series of photos that outline the build process. Still, if you are willing to give it a try, the images are available in the link. [Photofile and eee.pc.ru via Liliputing]

Asus Eee Touchscreen All-in-One Pops Up for Pre-Order, Looks Vaguely Apple-y

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 10:50 PM on October 13, 2008

The many, many promises that Asus would release a touchscreen Eee by the end of this year have been fulfilled—by pasting an Eee sticker on a touchscreen all-in-one (also promised, though not with touchiness). This all-in-one touchscreen Eee, which you can pre-order in the UK for £399.99, is pretty hobbled: 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive and 15-inch screen running Windows XP. I can only imagine how atrocious the touch experience is, but we'll find out on Nov. 20, or thereabouts, according to Play. And it only kinda apes the old-school iMac aesthetic. [Play via Engadget]

Asus N10E Landing End Of September, RRP $1,099

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 1:56 PM on September 10, 2008

I'm confused by the Asus strategy here - after naming everything small and cheap they can possibly come up with as "Eee", from ultraportables to monitors and desktops, they then go and produce another Netbook, but drop the Eee branding. It's confusing, that's for sure, but what isn't confusing is that we've been tipped off from a very reliable source that the N10E (a version of the N10 we saw the other day) will be launching in Australia by the end of the month for an RRP of $1,099.

It's much more expensive than the other Eee PCs, so that's probably the biggest factor in the naming scheme, but considering its 10.2-inch screen, Atom processor, 802.11n wireless, 120GB HDD, 1GB DDR2 RAM, and XP Home OS, it's not too expensive.

What do you guys reckon? Is this an Eee killer or Eee fodder?

Asus Eee Box Gets Unboxed Down Under

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 2:09 PM on August 14, 2008

Start saving your gold coin change, because at $429 the Asus Eee Box is as cheap as desktops PCs are likely to come in Australia.

People looking for a powerhouse: look elsewhere - this is cheap and nasty, running Windows XP on a 1.6Ghz Atom processor, with 1GB of memory and an 80GB hard drive. It's got 802.11n built-in, along with 2 USB and a memory card reader (SD, SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick).

As you can see from the image above, it's available in a range of colours, although in Australia, we have the better option of only getting black units. Nobody likes individuality anyway.

It's not perfect, obviously - there's no optical drive - but if you have an old monitor lying around somewhere, you could use this as a backup PC for email or web browsing.

Buffalo's 32GB and 64GB SSDs For Eee PC Get Launch Date, Price

Posted by Kit Eaton at 6:13 PM on July 29, 2008

Asus's EeePC 901 has already proved itself very hackable but Buffalo's newest product won't require much modding: 32GB or 64GB replacement SSD's. Not much more to say, apart from the obvious: more storage, more impact resilient, longer battery life. The best bit? The 32GB SHD-EP9M32G is a mere US$156, and the 64GB SHD-EP9M64G an equally neat US$316. Available in Japan at first, mid-September.

Eee PC's to Get 'Whole Day' Batteries, Says Rumour

Posted by Kit Eaton at 1:40 AM on July 26, 2008

Not content with muddying-up the waters of the Eee brand, Asustek is apparently keen to "push out software and hardware upgrades every month to fill gaps in the netbook market." Though that sounds like a bad idea, at least one benefit may come of it: according to Digitimes, one of the upcoming products will be a "whole day" battery for the Eee UMPCs. Digitimes also talks about an "internet storage" solution, and cooperation with European telecoms vendors. Interesting stuff, though since it seems slightly unsubstantiated, we'll wait 'til we hear something concrete to believe it. [Digitimes]

ASUS Continues Flood of Eee-Branded Gear With External HD, Optical Drive and 3G Card

Posted by John Mahoney at 9:40 AM on July 25, 2008

Still not content with keeping the Eee name only on their successful (but ballooning) line of netbooks, this unofficial but legit-looking crew of peripherals joins the Eee Box, Eee TV, Eee Monitor and Eee Enema (spot the outlier!) in further desecrating the brand. Included is an external hard disk with a fold-out USB connector, an optical drive and a 3G data connection card--which put together make up for most netbooks' feature shortcomings. No release details but we'll keep an Eee Eye out, if we can make sense of the whole mess. [Eee PC News via Laptop]
