DXG-569V HD: Super Cheap HD Camcorder Gets New Sanyo-Style Look

4:45AM Wilson Rothman | You probably remember DXG’s insanely cheap DXG-566V HD camcorder, the US$150 answer to Sanyo’s Xacti line. Well, DXG maybe didn’t think the 566 was enough of a copycat: The company has totally revamped the 720p/30fps camcorder with a “sexy vertical design” to look a lot more like the Xacti. The low price is retained: the all-new DXG-569V HD only costs US$170, while Xactis still cost anywhere from US$260 up to US$700. The DXG also only comes in silver or black, a small price to pay… literally. Specs and availability after the jump. More »

DXG-566V: A $150 High Def Camcorder?!

1:18PM Brian Lam | The What: DXG has always gone for the low cost bragging rights and they’ve reached the height of their budget crusade with this $US150 HD camera that records to 1280 x 720 at its highest res. We’ve seen tapeless camcorders do this before, but that price is pretty insane. It records in H.264 quicktime files, and the camera takes 5mp native stills. The Oh No You Didn’t: I would expect that this captures the grainiest, most lifeless, tepid high def you’ve ever seen. More »

Bored with Making Videos? Play Games on Your Video Camera.

5:30AM Seamus Byrne | Video shoots are long, tedious affairs, filled with boring down time as the crew sets up for the next shot and the actors get their soy self-worth massages in their trailers. So while a video camera that can play video games might seem kind of dumb at first, it's actually a pretty brilliant idea. DXG's new DXG-589V is a video camera with a 3-inch LCD screen and 20 built-in video games. Sure, it can take video and 5-megapixel snaps, but the real story is the strangely familiar Playstation buttons and SNES-quality games built in. I'd say it's the perfect camera to keep your Director of Photography occupied during boring shoots, but no self-respecting DP would shoot on something with webcam quality 640×480, 30fps stats. Oh well, for you savings-accountless aspiring YouTube auteurs, this $199 camera/game player could be just what you need to actually stick to a hobby for once.
