DoubleTwist, the file-sharing, media-organizing, device-syncing software project from DVD Jon was previously only available for Mac. Now they’ve opened the beta up to Windows users, which I’m sure will bring in a lot more downloads.
DoubleTwist is a new, open-source, universal media manager in beta for the Mac. It gathers music, videos and photos, supports tons of devices and has a P2P/social networking component. Will it be great?
Only a few people remember this, but DVD Jon cracked Apple’s Fairplay DRM way back in late 2006 and offered it up for companies to purchase the tech and integrate it into their own media files. Now DVD Jon has started his own company called doubleTwist that lets people rip protected iTunes music in order to have those files play on other company’s devices, such as the Sony PSP or the Zune.
On top of the two phone activation trick, DVD Jon has found a way to emulate the iTunes server, getting the iPhone to work as a WiFi iPod. (No calls, of course.) [So Sue Me via Adam H.] More »
