I’m sure this is just coincidental; Woolies announces it’s selling off Dick Smith Electronics, and suddenly a few really good deals pop up. Certainly coincidental. Anyway, on with the show…
Unless this is some sort of poetic retail conceptual art, which I doubt, this is probably the most botched product display of all time. Clearly, this “Unlocked Rugged Mobile” is simply bullshit, and doesn’t “float on water”.
Let’s hope you didn’t spend too much money on video games over Christmas – Dick Smith has 30 per cent off games under $50. There’s a pretty good lineup available for both PS3 and Xbox 360, with games starting from as little as $7 each. You’ll probably have to go and pick up from a store due to stock supplies, but for the savings, it’ll be worth the trip. [DSE via OzBargain]
With the recent news of one Dick Smith customer finding his “new” 1.5TB hard drive filled with pirated movies and a maximum capacity only a fraction of its advertised size, other customers and even former employees have emerged from the woodwork to reveal similar experiences with a number of popular retailers, including Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi.
Got less than $100 in the Gadget kitty right now? You’ve got your choice of gadgets today and tomorrow. First up, Kogan’s selling off its USB recording set digital set top box for $29 as a Friday special. You could plug that set box into the tiny but inexpensive Dick Smith 15-inch $99 TV. If mobile’s more your thing, Gus over at Lifehacker notes that Aldi’s got the Huawei Ideos U8150 on sale tomorrow for $59.99, including $35 worth of call credit. At the launch of Intel’s ultrabook line today, Dick Smith Electronics was announced as the first Australian retailer to offer Intel’s Anti-Theft service.
Last week we learned that Woolworths, Dick Smith and Big W will soon start selling the 6-inch graphite Kindle 3. But now that Amazon has cut the price on returned/repackaged Kindle 3s to $US100 (Wi-Fi) and $US130 (3G), you have to wonder if those rumoured Android Kindles are just around the corner. Should you wait?
As far as I’m aware, this is the first time the Kindle will be available from a local retailer. Both versions of the graphite Kindle 3 are now up for pre-order: the 3G for $219, and Wi-Fi for $159 (shipping is free). That compares pretty well compared to getting it shipped from Amazon directly. Update: Also available Woolworths supermarkets.
What’s your favourite major Australian electrical store? Apparently we’re happiest with our experience at the Good Guys and RetraVision: 88.8 per cent to 88.2 per cent, respectively, according to Roy Morgan stats for the last quarter. So what about Harvey Norman and Dick Smith?
Oops. Twitter was on fire this morning with reports that Dick Smith’s New Zealand online store was only asking for delivery costs on any purchase, making big ticket items like TVs and laptops next to free. As you’d expect, the web swarmed, and the Techxperts responded: sorry, no freebies for you. Updated!
