Sony just goosed up the “high zoom” range of its CyberShot line with the DSC-H3, bringing that old DSC-H2 rolled out in February ’06 up a notch with more megapixelidge, a 2.5-inch viewscreen up from 2 inches, and a lower price. This one’s a little slimmer, too, looking a lot less like a lens with a camera attached. And, it adds face detection and the ability to view your photos on an HDTV.
Those sly dogs at Sony quietly let the CyberShot DSC-T200 and DSC-T70 slip out, without even battering an eyelid. They both strike an impressive pose, not least because of those tasty touchscreens! Sony has announced the recall of 350,000 digital cameras which have the potential to cut and scratch users. The adhesive holding down the metal case is failing occasionally, causing dangerous sharp edges to lift up. 30 people have already been injured, prompting the Japan and US recall. Read on to see the failing models.
The Cyber-shot DSC-T5 is the affected model, specifically those with serial numbers between 3500001 and 3574100. Sony have said that they will cover parts and shipping, which is the least they can do for selling people cameras that could cut their hands or face. Sony were affected in previous months by large numbers of laptop battery recalls, so this will come as a doubly large blow to them. [The Register]
Sony just raised the bar with its 8.1-megapixel compact point and shoot CyberShot DSC-S800 camera, offering a 6x optical zoom that retracts into the camera body just like those 3x optical zooms do. To do that, Sony has abandoned Carl Zeiss optics for a lens of its own making, accompanying that with anti-blur tech will help you hold that sucker still even when you have the lens zoomed all the way in.
Take the jump to see the nice ass-end of this supersnapper, and there’s where we’ll break some bad news to you.
Unlike that last one, this is just plain cool. Some very clever CG at work, and the Sony folks even told me there is a really sexy half green suit floating around… man, I’d love to wear that to a party some time.
The real question is, did they pick the correct side to use as the ‘creative side’? Should it have been the left side? Or is right right because that’s where the brain half is? But doesn’t the right brain control the left?
Great, now my brain hurts. Thanks again, Sony! -Seamus Byrne
