In what is sure to be great news for smartphone owners of all persuasions, Corning is all set to show off the second generation of its amazing Gorilla Glass.
Gorilla Glass has been a major selling point for toughened smartphones of late, but the fast-paced world of glass design doesn’t sit still for long. Gorilla Glass is yesterday; tomorrow’s glass is Corning’s new Lotus Glass.
Bolshy Corning told me that they can envision a future where all our windows are made from Gorilla Glass – the tough as nails glass used in devices such as the Dell Streak, LG Optimus 7 and upcoming Sony Bravia TVs.
The Motorola Droid and Dell Streak are just a couple of the gadgets using Corning’s high-strength Gorilla Glass for their displays, but from next year we could be seeing TVs donning stab-proof protection.
Well, OK, maybe if you had free weekend and Mjǫllnir, hammer of Thor, you could crack Corning’s Gorilla Glass. But that’s a made-up thing! And this stuff is impervious to the very real threats of key scratching and localised pressure.
