The amateur rocketry scene is about to take one giant leap forward, thanks to a collection of volunteers who are planning to put a man into orbit. Via a home-made submarine-mounted floating launchpad.
Unlike wood-based models, the Heat 1X is a real metal rocket. At more than nine metres high, it’s also the largest amateur rocket in the world. The guys building it are planning one almost as large as the V-2.
