When word first broke that the accounts of Citibank cardholders were hacked, the number was pegged somewhere around 200,000. Citigroup has updated that figure, saying it was actually 360,000. Ouch. [WSJ]
Citgroup says 1 per cent of its credit card accounts have been accessed by hackers, which was brought to their attention by “routine monitoring”. Citigroup has 21 million account holders, meaning as many as 210,000 accounts were viewed.
Citibank’s iPhone app accidentally saved private user data such as passwords, account numbers and bill payments in a hidden file on phones. No security breach has been reported, however Citibank is urging its customers to upgrade their app to fix the flaw and delete any saved information. [WSJ via Fast Company]
