Two-years after the first Chumby helped kick-start widgets in Wi-Fi gadgets, a new version looks likely for November. First spied on blurrycam in August, the Chumby One has a new hard shell, FM and Internet radio, and a faster processor.
We already knew that Chumby, maker of that adorable little Wi-Fi widget beanbag, was planning on porting its open-source platform to other gadgets, but we now have an ETA: this Christmas.
If you were holding out for Internode to release the 2009 model Chumby before you got yourself a Wi-Fi enabled desktop beanbag companion thing of your very own, then now’s your chance – they’ve just announced the 2009 version is on sale for $349.
I’m not sure if Chumby’s widgets, minus the Chumby, are all that appealing—while everything with a power button has widgets nowadays, Chumby’s adorable, squishy form factor was why we liked it.
Goldfish must get lonely in those little bowls. I’m sure that’s why designer Bruno Fosi used guts from a Chumby to create a device that allows you to automate an aquarium and bring it online.

Well, be disappointed no longer – we’ve been working tirelessly over the past few days to get our widget up onto the Chumby servers, and even though it’s only V1, it’s still the best darned widget the Chumby has seen so far (if we do say so ourselves).
To get the Gizmodo AU widget on your Chumby, log onto Chumby.com and select the Australia category in the Manage widgets tab. And while you’re there, you should probably add all the other Allure Media sites as well, from Babble to Kotaku and Lifehacker to Defamer – they’re all pretty much guaranteed to keep you entertained throughout the day while you should be working, and that can’t be a bad thing.
