Once upon a time, Google promised that their much-hyped Chrome OS laptops would be coming in mid-year. Alas, details of a Samsung Chromebook, codenamed Alex, have surfaced in the Chromium code group, giving us hope that they’ll soon arrive.
Tablets have come along and killed the netbook, but let’s face it – the netbook market was having problems way before the iPad ever reared its 9.7-inch head. I mean, THE PRICE! You can pick up a fully fledged laptop for the price of most netbooks.

Sad news: Google’s VP of Product Management sent out a quick tweet saying the supply of Chrome OS CR-48 laptops has run out; but the public can expect partner devices to arrive mid-year. Users of Google’s Cr-48 laptop (developers; competition winners… even those who bothered sitting through a conference) can now have full satisfaction with their trackpad, as the Chrome OS update 0.10.156.46 has been pushed through.
Google has a lot of faith in their Chrome OS. So much, in fact, that they won’t be satisfied with anything less than creating a paradigm shift in computer use.
