Coming in the fall Xbox 360 update: Netflix! Yes, Xbox 360 owners who are also Netflix subscribers will be able to stream movies available for online streaming now straight to their consoles. You can also share your Netflix movies with friends via your Xbox Live party so you can watch stuff together, although you'll need a Gold account. Here's hoping you Xbox owners didn't shell out for a Roku box, as it's about to become useless. Oops! But still, awesome. [Gizmodo's E3 Microsoft Liveblog]

Confirmed: BlackBerry Thunder is Actually BlackBerry Storm, Release Not Delayed

Posted by Sean Fallon at 3:40 AM on July 11, 2008

Giz has learned from a solid source that the upcoming BlackBerry is definitely being called the "Storm" and not the "Thunder" as previously reported--proving that BGR had it all wrong all along. BGR was also incorrect in stating that the release would be delayed. In fact, our source claims that "It's on track and it rocks." So, it seems that in the midst of all of this iPhone news, BlackBerry fans have something to get excited about as well. Thanks, Tipster X!

PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.4 Bricking Some PS3s

Posted by Mark Wilson at 11:39 PM on July 2, 2008

It's not uncommon for firmware updates to go wonky, and apparently Sony's 2.4 PS3 update is no exception. The PlayStation forums are scattered with various reports of bricked PS3s--users report that upon booting their system, the SIXAXIS controller will not sync and the video signal is blank with no sound. Unfortunately, you can never tell how widespread these issues are when the sampling is just one messageboard. And I've updated my 60GB launch unit without issue. Suckers.

Nikon D700 Announcement Slated for Next Monday

Posted by Mark Wilson at 4:12 AM on June 27, 2008

A retailer has confirmed the existence of the Nikon D700, even though Nikon hasn't announced it yet. The webpage for Digital Depot has posted "Nikon will be announcing the new Nikon D700 on Monday 30th June! Check back soon for details, images and specifications." I wonder if they'll be waiting a little longer than some other retailers for their first box of D700s... [via photography bay]

iPhone 3G Launch Date Confirmed

Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 10:25 PM on May 20, 2008

We all suspected it, but now it is confirmed: someone very, very close to the 3G iPhone launch has told me that Apple will announce their new model at the WWDC Keynote on June 9th. The second-generation iPhone will be available worldwide right after the launch, and not at year's end, as previously thought. The new model will also herald new sales policies in some countries.

Vodafone To Bring The iPhone Thunder Down Under

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 5:31 PM on May 6, 2008

iphone vodafone.jpgWe've had rumours. We've had speculation. Now, after over a year of waiting, we have our first fact: Vodafone will be launching the iPhone in Australia at some point this year.

Sadly, that's about all they've said. They've sent out a press release stating that they've signed an agreement with Apple to release the iPhone on Vodafone in 10 countries, including Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey.

There's no word about exclusivity, pricing, release date or whether it will be the new 3G version, although speculation is already running rampant that the other major Australian carriers will have the device as well, and that we'll definitely see the 3G version.

Russell Hewett, CEO of Vodafone Australia, offered this comment to whet our appetite for the inevitable stream of iPhone related news we're about to get:

"Vodafone Australia is enormously pleased to be included in the agreement to sell the iPhone to our customers later this year.

The iPhone will be the perfect addition to Vodafone Australia's mobile handset range. The iPhone's Australian launch is well-timed to coincide with our plans to deliver an enhanced mobile internet and entertainment experience to customers.

The iPhone has already proved to be extremely popular with customers in other parts of the world and Vodafone is confident that today's announcement will be well received by all Australians who are keen to get their hands on their own iPhone."
The brief press release is in its entirety below:

Microsoft and Yahoo in Actual Merger Talks

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 7:54 AM on May 3, 2008

The month-long saga of the Borg (in FSJ's words) assimilating Yahoo might finally be coming to a close, with the two finally entering into actual merger negotiations, according to the NY Times. Microsoft has reportedly upped its original $44.6 billion bid by several billion. The deal might still fall apart, but they're actively doing the dance. Looks like this could actually happen, folks.
