Ben Heckendorn—true geek god amongst men—is back with revision 5 of his portable Xbox 360 console.
Ben Heck, console modder extraordinaire, has just finished up his newest Commodore 64 laptop, and he’s auctioning it off for charity.
We were a little more technically impressed with Ben Heck squeezed an Xbox 360 into a laptop case, but his new Commodore 64 laptop scores at least a few points for nostalgia.
Doing one better than the endless console-to-laptop mods out there, this minimalist tablet conversion flattens an entire Dreamcast into a sleek, tray-loading LCD screen. Nothing is overlooked here—it’s even got batteries.
Super-modder Ben Heck has used his powers for good. Again! This time, he’s helping the wheelchair-bound enjoy Guitar Hero 4′s drums by using a blow-tube to operate the kick pedal.
Normally, the portable consoles that spring forth from the handy folks at the Ben Heck forums are sleek, professional-looking affairs. This wooden PS1? Not so much.
Modder extraordinaire Ben Heck is growing disciples like Chia Pets, and his forum poster SifuF’s new Nintendo Sixtyfree Lite-R is an incredible little portable N64. We’re sure he’s made the Heckster proud.
It’s called Possumus Woman, and he’s almost done with it. I think this picture of Mr. Heckendorn fighting said marsupial in the back of a flatbed (“the most complex scene”) kind of says it all–let us know when there’s an Xbox 360 inside that robo-possum, Ben! [Ben Heck]
Internet-famous modder Ben Heck just completed a teardown of the new 60GB Xbox 360. And while Microsoft is only advertising the 40GB storage bump over the old 20GB model, he found that there is one notable difference which will further prevent the old RRoD problem. And it has to do with RAM.
Modding clever-clogs Ben Heck was apparently daunted by the complexity of the Atari 7800′s internals at first, so he had to summon up the nerve to try this requested mod. Into the custom-built chassis he squeezed a 7-inch colour widescreen display, a set of rechargeable batteries, combo driving/paddle controller and an A-V output. Though it’s not exactly pocket-friendly (thanks to the 7800′s large motherboard) it’s still pretty awesome—check out the gallery. Ben’s site has a detailed making-of story if you’re interested. Now, if you excuse me… I’m off to reminisce about playing Pole Position. [Ben Heck via Hackaday]
