Ballmer On a Microsoft App Store: Sure, Why Not?

Posted by Jack Loftus at 2:00 AM on November 10, 2008

Tucked away in Steve Ballmer's Webkit lip service from Friday was this gem about the potential for an Apple-esque Microsoft App Store. "I actually will agree that there's some good work, particularly at Facebook and also with the iPhone, where both of those companies have made it easier for developers to distribute their applications," he said. The chair chucker went on to say there's "not much money being made" with those platforms, but he agreed with the concept, and confirmed there's something coming from Redmond on this front soon. So, Microsoft emulate Apple? I'll believe it when I see it... [Computerworld]

Ballmer on WebKit: 'We May Look at That'

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 4:30 AM on November 8, 2008

I kinda feel like Steve Ballmer's biographer lately, but whenever the guy opens his mouth (which is a lot) something interesting always spills out. When talking about why it's worth still spending tons of money on Internet Explorer when open source browsers are more nimble in responding to changing web standards, Ballmer said that while "there will still be a lot of proprietary innovation in the browser itself... open source is interesting." He continued "Apple has embraced Webkit and we may look at that, but we will continue to build extensions for IE 8."

Steve Ballmer Confirms Windows Mobile 6.5

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 11:53 PM on November 7, 2008

Sure, Windows Mobile 7 is a year away, but while Steve Ballmer was busy talking smack about Android, he did manage to confirm that Windows Mobile 6.5, which Motorola leaked, is real.

Steve Ballmer Doesn't Get Android

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 1:53 AM on November 7, 2008

At Australian carrier Telstra's annual investment day, Steve Ballmer did what he does best: talk crap about the competition. The target? Android. "I don't really understand their strategy. Maybe somebody else does." You see, it doesn't make any money, and that's why it baffles him. It actually kind of baffles me that it baffles him, since Google's approach is not so dissimilar from how Windows took over the world, just adapted to the wild 'n' crazy mobile market.

Ballmer Doesn't Think World Is Ready For Cloud Computing

Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 3:00 PM on October 17, 2008

Added to the list of things that Steve Ballmer and Google have polar opposite opinions on is "cloud computing," which Ballmer argues consumers don't really want. In an interview with a Brazilian news source, the Microsoft CEO contended that even the best cloud computing applications would still have to be based on some pretty great software, a.k.a. Windows.

Ballmer: It's Okay to Wait for Windows 7, Which 'Will Be Vista, But a Lot Better'

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 5:50 AM on October 17, 2008

Say what you want about Steve Ballmer, but whenever he opens his mouth, good stuff comes out. Like that Microsoft is sorta kinda at peace with people skipping Vista for Windows 7: "If people want to wait they really can... but I'd definitely deploy Vista." He was talking about the enterprise space in this horrible economy, but you're poor too, right? After all, even he admits that "Windows 7 will be Vista, but a lot better."

Steve Ballmer Says That Vista Capable Debacle Totally Not His Fault

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 12:30 AM on October 8, 2008

Bailing on his court appearance in the class-action lawsuit over the fact that "Vista Capable" computers were utter pieces of crap packed with sucky chips that were "capable" of running Vista in only the thinnest, most literal interpretation of term, Steve Ballmer delivered a written deposition that excused himself of all responsibility.

We hate crapware, you hate crapware, and Steve Ballmer hates crapware. Here's what Ballmer said last night about it.

Ballmer Coming To Australia To Scream At Us About Innovation

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 1:40 PM on September 26, 2008

ballmer-oz.jpgZDNet is telling the world that Microsoft megastar and man-mountain Steve Ballmer will be heading to Australia in November to speak at the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney.

If you want to hear the PC-man scream at you about the latest Microsoft innovations and the digital economy, you'll need to pony up some cash - CEDA members can volunteer to be lambasted by Ballmer's well-renowned shouting for $143 each, while non-CEDA members will need $199.10 (because that 10 cents makes a difference) to enjoy the experience.

Let's just hope his presentation is light on the Vista innovations, and heavy on the Windows 7 innovations...

Steve Ballmer Goes Nuts (Again) To Sell Windows

Posted by Mark Wilson at 3:45 AM on September 21, 2008

Microsoft's latest "I'm a PC" advertising campaign kicked off pretty well, but someone, somewhere, thought it was missing something. And by "something" we mean the lunacy of Steve Ballmer shouting at the top of his lungs, "I AM A PC AND I LOVE THIS COMPANY!" while looking like he might punch/eat the camera.

Found on Microsoft's Life Without Walls promotional site, users who click on Ballmer's tiny face will be greeted with this message. And while we can't speak for everyone here, we're convinced to run out and buy a few copies of Windows Vista (to distract The Ballmer should he charge us on the open plain). [Life WIthout Walls Thanks Guillaume!]
