Wii Ski and Snowboard Uses Balance Board, Looks Amazing
7:30PM John Herrman | It isn’t the first balance board-enabled ski game for the Wii, but it sure looks like it’ll be the best. With the weird and richly varied balance board hacks cropping up all over the place, it’s good — though late — for Nintendo to finally demonstrate a game that looks worthy of the device. Microsoft Surface on a Wii Balance Board
11:00PM Mark Wilson | It’s tough to imagine the eureka moment when an engineer, equating the Microsoft Surface with a fat person with a penchant for curly fries dipped in ranch, decided to place the Surface on the Wii Balance Board. But the result, coupled with a custom-coded Surface app, creates a tilt screen of epic proportions. Pushing on one edge of the Surface works just like rotating an iPhone. And we can’t wait to see the technology manifest to an insane 4-player co-op game of Monkey Ball. [Stimulant via ubergizmo] More »

Man Controls Roomba With Wii Balance Board, Atari-Era Surfin’ USA Soundtrack
4:30AM Jack Loftus | Ron Tajima has some time on his hands. And a Roomba. And a Wii Balance Board. See where we’re going with this? Anyway, he put them all together, combined it with a Surfin’ USA track that sounds like it was ripped from the 1980’s, and now he can control the previously autonomous Roomba with his feet. “This is my third Roomba hacking,” Tajima says. “This surfin is safe, useful (it’s cleaning), and easy for nerds. Wii balance board is great!” Indeed it is, Tajima-san, indeed it is. Maybe there’s a reason for me to take the Balance Board out from underneath my TV and use it again. More »

Man Uses Wii Balance Board to Control A Robot, Plans to Move People Too
5:40AM Gizmodo US Edition | Juan González has hacked together a simple setup that lets his Wii Balance board move a small, irritating robot in any direction. This looks like the first robotic pairing for the board, which has to date has only been interfaced with computers as a control device to awkwardly navigate games and mapping applications. It’s pretty clear that González is excited about this hack (watch the end of the video), but he isn’t done yet- next up is is a Balance Board-based “robo-surfboard.” More »

Xbox 360, PS3 and PC to Get Balance Boards
11:23PM Mark Wilson | A new leak from Activision reveals that the next Tony Hawk skateboarding game will feature a breakthrough gaming peripheral for the 360, PS3 and PC. So what exactly is it? Wait for it…motion controls…wait for it again…through a board controller. For those of you who don’t feel like plastic instruments, gamepads for multiple systems and the freakin’ consoles themselves have taken over your life enough, there’s more crap on the way!! Hacked Wii Fit Board Lets You Stumble Around Azeroth
8:00AM Gizmodo US Edition | The Germans who hacked a Wii Balance Board from Wii Fit to surf Google Earth have found a much more fun use for the peripheral – running around World of Warcraft. In this follow up video, Simon and Mattieu control a low level gnome exploring Ironforge, avoiding wolves and slamming into tree trunks. Now all they need to do is hack the Wiimote and Nunchuck to understand macros and I will be the fittest WoW player EVER. [Technabob] More »
