In a sleepy, nondescript lot away from the lights of the Vegas strip lies the Pinball Hall of Fame — home to around 400 vintage pinball machines (and some arcade cabinets) from the 1940s through to present day. Best of all, they’re almost all playable. I took some time out from the Consumer Electronics Show to make a pilgrimage this week. Here’s what I discovered. More »

Hold Me Closer, Tiny Space Invaders Arcade Cabinet

1:00AM July 8, 2011 | Brian Barrett

There’s something so refreshing about when great minds focus on small objects, isn’t there? And however much blasting alien hordes with these tiny buttons would hurt my delicate digits, I can still admire the ingenuity. More »

The Virtual Boy Arcade Cabinet That Never Existed

4:40AM June 15, 2011 | Adrian Covert

The Nintendo Virtual Boy was over before it ever really got a chance to show what it couldn’t do. But that doesn’t mean that someone, somewhere isn’t building an arcade cabinet temple for the aborted console. More »

Why Wouldn’t You Want Arcade Buttons On Your Light Switch?

11:27PM June 3, 2011 | Adrian Covert

Every time you turn on a light, you’ll be reminded of those countless hours spent mashing buttons and dropping quarters into your favourite arcade cabinet. Maybe it was Street Fighter II, or possibly NBA Jam. Either way, it’s good. [Etsy via Wired]

There Is Still A Small Town In America That Bans Arcade Games

6:00PM May 9, 2011 | Luke Plunkett

As incredible as it is to imagine, until a recent vote a small town in the United States of America had outlawed arcade machines. Thankfully, that vote has now been held, and… hey, wait a minute, arcade games are still banned? More »

The Tabletop Arcade Receives A 21st Century Makeover

9:20AM February 22, 2011 | Adrian Covert

This isn’t the same tabletop Pac Man game you played as a kid in pizza parlors. No, this one has been been updated with a more modern screen and a futuristic-looking-exterior. But the gameplay is strictly retro: Pac Man, Donkey Kong Junior, Dig Dug, 1942, Galaga and 55 other classic arcade games can be found on this thing. That said, $US3500 for a bunch of 30 year old games in a fancy looking shell seems like a lot. [Arcade Tables via Uncrate] More »

1:00AM December 14, 2010 | Kat Hannaford

A two-year-old girl somehow crawled into one of those claw machines you often see in arcades – you know, with stuffed toys which you try and pick up with a claw – and had to be rescued by the fire-department. More »
