Of course I couldn’t, not really, not with my penchant for socially awkward faux pauxs anyway, but nevertheless it was neat to see what one of the Apple higher ups had populating his iPhone.

Also making the iPhone App Schill-list was CNN’s app, the always-popular Facebook app, and a couple of games, like Eliminate and geoDefense, reports the New York Times.
Of course, if they are just looking for people to work on this now we can’t really expect to see it this week or next, but at least it is in the works. So what are you waiting for?

Oh Installer, Installer, we had so much fun together, you and I. When Apple didn’t have any iPhone app store, and whenever Apple blocked some essential iPhone apps, you were always there. And now… now you are dead.

The short story is that Cydia—the other non-official iPhone app installer—won the battle against Installer. Installer was the first pretty application installer to appear for the iPhone, but Cydia became more popular over the last few months. Ripdev—which was involved in the project since version 3—says that the Installer repositories will be available until July 1st, 2009.

But fear not, my young apprentices, because we still have Cydia and Icy, which is an iPhone app installer that plugs into Cydia directories—incidentally, made by the same guys who did Installer. [Ripdev]

The process is really easy-snap a photo, crop it down to the area where text is the clearest, then help the app’s text recognition divine which letters are which, and presto, your identification comes back with a list of choices. The app nailed each font I tried with black text on a plain white background, but it has a little trouble when different coloured backgrounds enter into play (like when I tried to identify the font for the Gizmodo logo on our page).

I tried it on my handwriting, and it actually found a few fonts that were pretty close. Apparently I write in a font called Giant Sized Spectacular Bold. Sounds about right.
The new silly mark was set on a 20-inch 2007 iMac, with a 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo and 4 Gigabytes of RAM. It took about 15 minutes to open all apps, and I guess 15 more minutes to put all the windows in Exposé mode. The reader who sent this says that he “was able to talk on video chat while opening everything, even while the video froze at some times for just a few seconds.” One thing he noticed: The dock can’t get beyond 100 applications.

Well, now you can rest easy – as Luke over at Decoder has discovered, Three has actually launched an App store of their very own.Technically, it’s not really an App store in the sense of the iTunes version – it’s only available through your Three mobile phone and instead of hosting the apps themselves, Three merely points you to sites that offer useful applications for your phone. And despite our highest hopes, there doesn’t appear to be a Wobble-like app up there yet. Damn.

According to Decoder, you’ll need an X-Series handset and data pack to have access to get most of the apps available, which further limits the reach of this, but considering the growing level of sophistication available in mobile phones and the programs they run, this is actually a very clever move from the mobile carrier, especially if they’re getting a cut of the sales.

Currently, you can connect to “AIM, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN/Live, Myspace IM, and Yahoo messenger” with Beejive. With 2.0, you can send in-line photos, audio and video files, PDFs and Office docs to anyone you’re chatting with, provided the recipient has an IM client from the last 10 years.

The best part is the voice message feature, which you can activate with the microphone icon. The worst part is the price: $US16. You do get what you pay for, and Beejive seems to be a pretty fancy IM app. [App Store via TUAW]
