Apple's Chatswood Store To Open This Saturday

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 9:08 AM on August 4, 2008

apple store Chatswood.jpg

Apple fans living on the North Shore of Sydney will be happy today - Apple has just sent me an invitation to the opening of their second Australian store in Chatswood.

The store will open to the public at 9am this Saturday the 9th of August.

The invite doesn't actually specify whether or not they'll have any iPhones in stock at the new store, or whether they expect the same sort of crowds they got from the Sydney Store (or whether they're giving away a free T-shirt this time either).

The media event is at 8am on Saturday morning. What do you guys think - should I go? 8am is an early start for a Saturday, especially since I live on the opposite side of Sydney. So I put it to you the reader: Should Giz AU attend the Chatswood Apple Store opening? Let me know and why in the comments section...

Defective by Design Douches Take Up Genius Bar Slots to Whine About DRM

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 6:20 AM on July 29, 2008

Look, I hate DRM as much as anyone. But Defective by Design's latest anti-DRM campaign is supremely douchey. They're calling on supporters to book as many slots as possible at Genius Bars around the world this Friday and Saturday—where people go to get their busted Apple prettywares fixed—to complain about DRM in order to "get Apple's attention and ensure that the Geniuses have done their homework." You know, and be giant dickbags.

Tracker Checks Apple Store iPhone 3G Stock Every 15 Minutes

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 1:15 AM on July 25, 2008

While Apple's website updates its Apple Store iPhone 3G stock count every night after 9PM, the guys running the iPhone 3G availability tracker at Top Muffin say the data is actually updated throughout the day. So it hits the feed every 15 minutes, theoretically providing the most up-to-date stock count around. Or you could just, you know, call the store and have a real live person tell you to bring some sunscreen, an umbrella and some s'mores since a wave of diarrhea cut the line down to a mere 7 hours. Beijing's Apple Store Gets Crashed By Windows XP

Posted by Jason Chen at 8:00 AM on July 23, 2008

We literally have no further information other than what you see in the image above, but either way, it's a very interesting photo even if it might be a fake. It makes sense that whatever huge display is running off a Windows XP machine—many giant displays do. What's also interesting in the photo are the cops (are they cops?) manning the line with fire extinguishers in case one of the Beijingnese Apple customers gets outta line. [Thanks Chris!]

Sneaky Steve Wozniak (With Posse) Cuts In Line at San Jose iPhone 3G Launch

Posted by Jack Loftus at 1:00 AM on July 14, 2008

More bad news from the iPhone 3G iPocalypse: Steve Wozniak, creator of the Apple II and a hero of many geeks the world over, may have cut in line at the Westfield Valley Fair Mall Apple Store. I know, breathe deep, we'll get through this. The alleged grade school manoeuvre seemed out of sorts for a man who just recently chided the 3G JesusPhone for not having "break-the-bank items." He even went so far as to say a lot of his friends (presumably not Kathy Griffin) weren't going to upgrade. Nevertheless, if the line-cutting story is true, and there's photographic evidence that suggests it is, then apparently Woz--and a posse--couldn't really be bothered with line sitting at all.

The Night Before the 3G iPhone Launch at the 5th Ave Apple Store

Posted by Benny Goldman at 3:03 PM on July 11, 2008

The line outside of the Apple store on 59th street in NYC is definitely an event. There are about 100 people wrapped around the block, patiently waiting for the iPhone 3G. We'll be up all night checking out the scene and talking to the diehards who can't wait to get their hands on the new phone. We've got games, blankets, and provisions (liquid and food), so if you're in town, stop by and say "Hi". Otherwise, keep checking back to see all of the madness going on—you never know what could happen. Update: Greg Packer showed up!

Official: iPhone On Sale at 8AM on Friday in Apple Stores, Too

Posted by Brian Lam at 10:48 AM on July 8, 2008

The 8AM times previously mentioned as the iPhone 3G sale time applied only to AT&T stores. Apple just updated their retail page to reflect the same time of sale within Apple retail spaces. I think we all assumed this was fact, but now it is.

AU: The Aussie Site hasn't been updated yet, so there's no guarantee that the Sydney store will be selling iPhones. Although those big displays are quite convincing...
[Apple Thanks Patricio]

Apple's Sydney Store Has Its Own Giant iPhone

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 10:36 AM on July 8, 2008

giant iphone 1.jpg

We're now just three days away from the iPhone 3G's launch in Australia. You'd think that we'd be inundated with press releases and launch parties and excitement. Instead we're still waiting for Vodafone and Telstra to give us their pricing details, and Apple Australia still haven't announced whether they'll be selling the new iPhone at their Sydney Apple Store.

They have, however, gone and put those giant iPhone displays in their windows. Reader Stefan has sent in these pics of the super-large Jesusphone so you can all look at it longingly and hope that the next three days fly by faster than browsing the internet of 3G.

There's a couple more pics below the fold, as well.

Behold, the iPhone 3G Display

Posted by Mark Wilson at 12:44 AM on July 8, 2008

Those visiting Apple stores later today won't be able to buy the iPhone 3G, but at least they'll be able to check it out in Jumbotron form. Here's the iPhone 3G in its official capacity as an unusable giant Apple store display, which according to our sources will be on show floors today. And if you look really closely at the picture, you can just make out clouds parting in the background and a glorious ray of light shining onto the giant device. Glory be.

Guy Makes a Comic to Try to Justify Acting Like a Jackass at the Apple Store

Posted by Adam Frucci at 6:17 AM on July 1, 2008

Jim Dougan wanted to install an Airport Card in his wife's MacBook. He realised that a normal screwdriver wouldn't open the case to allow him to do so. A Google search would have shown him that he required a Torx Wrench #8. He did not make a Google search. Instead, he made a fool out of himself in the Apple Store, yelling and screaming at the Genius Bar employees. He was clearly in the wrong, but to make himself feel better and get internet sympathy, he made a comic about his experience.
