There was a rumour back in 2010 that Commodore was planning to relaunch the Amiga. Now the retro computer brand has gone and done it, launching this high-end, small form factor gaming PC — as well as a new reissue of its classic C64.
Those of an old timer perspective like myself — or as I like to think of it, suitably seasoned — will know that every couple of years, the dusty but beloved old Amiga brand gets a reheating and a semi-fresh spark of life. The latest Amiga products due for release next year? Amiga netbooks.
The telltale lowercase letter. The word Amiga. Yes, it’s a fully working Commodore Amiga emulator for iPhone and it’ll be launching soon – pending deals with the original software publishers to ensure it’s all 100 per cent legal and legit.
If you’ve still got any amount of fondness for the Amiga brand in you, you’ll be happy to hear that the old-timey PC maker is planning on releasing two brand- spanking-new PCs next week. Amiga’s still using the PowerPC architecture, which makes it unlikely that you’re going to be running Windows Vista on it natively.
However, for those who have been eagerly awaiting Amiga’s OS4, which has been in development nearly as long as Duke Nukem Forever, next week will be a good week for you. – Jason Chen
