The Vulcan mind meld between AIM and your Gmail buddies is in effect – though it doesn’t appear to have been officially announced. Sending a message to a friend on the other side is just as easy as we’d hoped.

Everyone eventually trades up from the AIM app to IM+ or BeeJive or Meebo, but the free AIM app for the iPad actually looks decent.
Facebook and AOL have linked their instant messaging platforms. After downloading the beta software, AIM users can click a “Facebook Connect” button to set up Facebook chat. They’ll then have access to their Facebook friends on their buddy list.
According to developer Till Schadde, random people may be receiving your AIM messages if you have a jailbroken or unlocked iPhone. In fact, anyone with a jailbroken iPhone may be getting it, according to his testing:

There are two versions of the AIM app in the App Store right now. The free one, with ads, and the $US2.99 one, with no ads. They both have push notifications.
