Not only that, but TiVo users would have to pay extra to get them. While no firm figure was agreed upon, the term “tens of dollars” was quoted. Turns out, TiVo actually ment to say 20 tens of dollars, because they’re charging $199 for it.The list of added functionality is fairly extensive – you can share recorded content between TiVos in different rooms; stream music and photos from your PC or Mac to your TiVo; transfer recordings to your PC or home movies back to your DVR; and even transfer recordings to your iPod or other selected mobile phones or portable devices. But is is worth $199? Considering TiVo’s appeal comes from the fact that it’s relatively cheaply priced at $699, this brings the price right up to the $900 mark, excluding attachments like the wireless adapter.

On top of that, Mac users need a copy of Roxio Toast 10 Titanium in order to get the software to work, and at this stage it only supports streaming photos and music to your TiVo – not any of the other functions.

We’ve contacted TiVo for comment on the pricing structure and are waiting for their response. But this is exactly the kind of pricing that would turn me away from TiVo (if I didn’t have an iQ2 for the Super 14 and the Comedy Channel). What about you guys?

The Price: About $2 per pair.

The Verdict: Pretty good! I usually hate this rubbery add-on stuff that fattens up a sleekly designed gadget, but I have to admit, playing both the PS3 and Xbox 360 felt better with the caps than without. The texture isn’t just more sticky, it also has a few nubs that support your thumbs as they push the sticks farther off centre. (In picture above, left stick is capped, right is normal.) And the covers don’t add too much bulk, either, even though the first few minutes of testing were definitely a strange sensation.

So do I play better with the Caps4Stix? No clue. But they aren’t just a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. They are more like a subtle improvement on something that you’d never have realised was broken. Like a fix to a carbon monoxide leak if carbon monoxide just burned off a few brain cells instead of killing you.

Now if only you could buy them in a colour other than black to match the 360 controller… [Caps4Stix]

The good news is that they’ll still continue to support and repair your player based on the standard warranty, but chances are you’ll get little future use out of that player now that no movies will be made for it. What’s still unclear is whether there will ever be a Blu-ray add-on to the 360 that’s cheap enough to sell the Xbox + Blu-ray package at a comparable price to the PS3 (US$399ish). We’re guessing that something along these lines will hit within the year. [Gamerscreblog]
