EzyDVD Goes Into Receivership

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 4:37 PM on December 17, 2008

According to the ABC, EzyDVD has gone into receivership today. They're hopeful that they'll be able to save the company from complete destruction, and blame their current predicament on trading losses and lacklustre sales. But I guess that means that we won't be seeing their digital movie store happening any time soon, if ever. Here's hoping they manage to stay afloat in these tough economic times - even though they don't really venture too far below the RRP for their movies, they do have a pretty extensive selection, and their Beat the Bomb sales are always good value...

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 2:45 PM on December 11, 2008

photo-2.jpgThis is not something I enjoy writing about, but as gadget fans, it's our duty to put pressure on companies to try and minimise the environmental impact of shipping our favourite products. Posted by John Mahoney at 5:00 AM on November 29, 2008

Confession: Until a few days ago, I'd never calibrated my TV. There are a couple reasons for this. First, and most simply, I'm not down with buying a calibration disc that I will likely use once then never touch again. And second, to me, HDTV calibration is the gadget geek's equivalent to chasing the dragon. I've seen endless A/V forum posts of new TV owners begging and pleading for that one true setting for their new high-definition slab—it's not pretty. There is an easy way, though, tucked inside hundreds of THX-certified DVDs already out there, and it's quite possibly already in your movie collection.

Philips Won't Sell Home Theatre Equipment in North America Anymore

Posted by Mark Wilson at 1:52 AM on November 20, 2008

Back in April, Philips announced plans to hand over its television promotion, sales and manufacturing to Funai. Now the company has expanded those plans to what sounds like all of their home theatre products, including DVD players, Blu-ray players and surround sound equipment. Oh, you'll still see Philips DVD players for sure, but it won't really be Philips. So have a good time dropping that little factoid to your favourite, know-it-all salesperson next time they gush about the Philips brand name. [NYT]
