Fujifilm S2000HD Gives 720p Recording To Australians For $399

Gizmodo AU

We saw this snapper a few weeks ago when it was first announced globally, and now the powers that be at Fujifilm have deemed us fit to see an Australian release.

The camera, which features 720p HD video recording as well as 1920×1080 still images, is available now for the bargain price of $399. For that price, you also get face detection, a 10-megapixel sensor, burst mode of 13.5 frames per second (3MP only), up to ISO 6400, and a 15x optical zoom.

It’s a pretty impressive spec list for such a bargain priced snapper. ind of makes you wonder how they can afford to sell it so cheaply, doesn’t it?

Is HD Video the Next Must-Have Point ‘n’ Shoot Feature?

At PMA 2008, it seemed like everyone is adding HD video recording to their digital point ‘n’ shoot lineup: Panasonic’s TZ5 and FX35, Samsung’s NV24HD, a few Kodak EasyShare cameras and even one Canon PowerShot, the TX-1. Though Sony, Nikon and Fujifilm are still notably missing from the bandwagon, and Canon doesn’t seem to be pushing hard just yet, we predict that 720p video recording is the next big upsell, now that image stabilisation, face recognition and in-camera editing are nearly ubiquitous. The question is:

“Dude, I just spent $100,000 on the most kick arse home theatre.”

“Seriously??”

“Yeah, you’ve gotta come over for the game this Monday.”

“I’m so there! What’s it got?”

“Well, the four 42″ plasmas are sweet. But the centerpiece has to be this awesome 144-inch Draper screen with a gorgeous 720p Sanyo projector.”

“Whoa! Wait…did you say, 720p?”

Viewsonic Busts Out Three New Mid-Sized HDTVs

Viewsonic just unveiled a new line of three mid-sized HDTVs, sized at 26, 32, and 37 inches. The 720p sets all have 500-nit brightness and 8ms response times, with the contrast ratios being 800:1 for the smallest set and 1,200:1 for the larger two.

They’ve got all your standard inputs, from HDMI and component to S-video and RCA, and the largest model’s got DVI for hooking up to a computer. Nothing about these sets will wow the neighbors, but for the price ($599, $699, $899) you get some pretty decent HDTV for your buck. Not everything can be a 70-inch behemoth, people. –Adam Frucci
