Apparently the pop up prompt was seen by the fellow’s coworker who explained the situation:

He believed he was in a temp-to-hire position, and after three months of extra hours and butt-kissing, turns out it’s just a temp position. He was a good worker too. I’d have recommended him. Too bad he burned his bridges… Obviously he had contemplated quitting long enough to make this thing, but still refused to speak to anyone about his feelings. Ironically, he complained about the ‘divas’ at his last job.

Well, who’d want to keep him if he makes an app with prompts that don’t even have functional buttons? If nothing, one of the buttons should’ve opened an email app with a pre-written apology note. The spammer plead guilty in June along with his son, who was sentenced to 40 months in jail. I don’t think that this Godfather’s status will afford him lobster dinners in the slammer.

The beating of a 12-year-old redheaded boy this past Friday is linked to two of the favourite punching bags of those unwilling to directly blame the dickface kids responsible: Facebook and South Park.

The boy, who attends middle school in Southern California, is the victim of a beating that seems to stem from a Facebook page proposing “Kick a Ginger Day”, which in turn is linked to a particular episode of South Park. The worst part? That poor kid was beaten up not once but twice, in the same day, by two separate groups of his classmates.

Luckily, it seems the kid was not seriously injured, though as of yet his attackers have not been arrested. As the proud co-worker of two redheads, I hope the bullies get their butts kicked by a large Scottish man.

This kid is the famous teen pop star Justin Bieber. Yes, I didn’t have a clue either, but apparently he sings in Microsoft store openings and malls. His other ability: If he doesn’t tweet, he gets people in jail.

That’s what happened after his presence caused 3000 hysteric teen girls to march into the Roosevelt Field mall, pushing everyone and each other aggressively. The police asked him to use Twitter to help disperse the multitude, which was getting increasingly violent. When he didn’t comply, they arrested Bieber’s label VP, James A. Roppo:

We asked for his help in getting the crowd to go away by sending out a Twitter message. By not cooperating with us we feel he put lives in danger and the public at risk.

He is now waiting to be charged, probably with “criminal nuisance, endangering the welfare of a minor and obstructing government administration”. After that, the kid used Twitter to ask all the teen girls to go home because the performance got cancelled. Except for the two cute blondes with ultra-short skirts by the lolly shop, and the redhead with the big cleavage ordering pizza at the food court.

It seems to me a bit extreme and stupid, much like that kid who got cleared of criminal charges because of his status update. Why wouldn’t the police disperse the crowd by announcing the same thing using a megaphone? Or knocking them all with long-range tasers? I can go for that or for smoke grenades. Probably both.

But would a tweet make such a difference? What if Twitter didn’t exist? [Newsday via All Things D]

Me too. But if you believe these bizarre 1980s ads, computers were meant to foster an age of dazed family-togetherness.

Sure, the Wii might actually have a shot at keeping awkward conversation to a minimum, but it faces the same problem that the Commodore 64 had when it reigned supreme: You’ll still probably be booted from the TV when the football starts.

Technologizer has collected 10 of the most disturbingly perky tech ads from the 1980s, and it’s a fun look at how far we’ve (sorta) come. [Technologizer]

Multiplication and addition, of course.

570,937,778 computers are online, with the average weight of 88 pounds (40kg), with monitors, printers and any other peripherals. Ehhh… I’m still a bit sceptical of that number, given the popularity of laptops, but let’s keep coming because this is fun!

There are an additional 175,480,931 servers, and about 100 million Blackberries/iPhone/iPod touches to worry about. Plus, there’s a 2840m transatlantic cable connecting one half of the digital world to the other (it in itself weighs 191,802,168 pounds) to account for.

Anyway, the final number they come up with is 1,098,868,920,000 pounds (or just over a trillion pounds, for those too lazy to count commas).

To put that number in better perspective, it’s about the same weight as 25,000 cloned Sears/Willis Towers.
