Meizu M8’s New Interface Almost Makes Me Want It

6:00AM Matt Buchanan | Meizu M8, maybe the most legendary knockoff gadget around, maintains its “inspired” tradition with a refreshed UI that feels faintly of the Palm Pre in terms of graphical styling. I like it, even if I know, really, I’d hate it. More »

iFauxne Roundup: Apple Ripoffs Just Keep Getting Worse

9:15AM Gizmodo US Edition | Today in shady Chinese electronics manufacturer news, we’ve got a whopping three iPhonies vying for your (counterfeit?) dollars. iFone, which isn’t another of my clever puns but is actually a very brazenly-named company, announced the iFone 3G and the two-for-one ripoff iFone X1. Dane-Elec Tries Media and Music PMPs on For Size

12:00AM Jack Loftus | Dane-Elec, known for distributing the iPhone ripoff Meizu 8 and the M6, is ready to try its hand with a few PMPs of its own. The first four players in the new line are named pretty much for what they do. There’s the Music Mediatouch, for molesting music and media files with a touchscreen. Then there’s the Music Touch, which is similar to the first, yet smaller. Music Pix shows off music and, well, pictures. Finally, the “music” is attached to a lanyard so you can lug your MP3s to soccer practice or something. More »

Fake Water Cube Building Spotted in Sichuan, China

5:00PM Gizmodo US Edition | We’ve long known about certain companies in China “borrowing inspiration” from more well known gadget makers, but it looks like architects aren’t safe from copycat syndrome either. Check out this spa building in Chongqing, the capital of Sichuan (where the earthquakes happened), which looks a little like it may have been designed by someone with just a little bit of Beijing Olympics mania. Hey, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? [Shanghaiist] More »

4:00AM Gizmodo US Edition | BusinessWeek reports that counterfeit hardware has been found to be the cause of several malfunctions in high-level military machinery. The phony infiltration has a distinct possibility of leading to espionage or sabotage. In other words, move over, Meizu M8: you’re not the biggest faker in town anymore. More »
