Moto X: Meet Motorola’s New Mobile Saviour

The Moto X hasn’t exactly been a big secret for Google and Motorola these last few weeks, but that doesn’t mean that the launch of the new, curvy flagship isn’t something to get excited about. Here’s what it’s packing.

The Moto X represents the shining new hope for a Motorola under Google, and powering that dream is a 4.7-inch AMOLED 1280×720 (316ppi) screen, a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, a new Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB worth of storage.

It’s also running, for all intents and purposes, stock Android, meaning that Motorola’s own MotoBlur skin is gone for this iteration.

The design of the handset is a stark departure from the RAZR series handsets of the past. Gone are the sharp edges, kevlar backing plates and scored aluminium designs, instead ushering in a friendly-looking device with a pronounced curve on the back and sides, as well as a beautifully thin bezel — a complaint we’ve long-had with the RAZR series.

The Moto X is also heavily customisable, not just in terms of the Android platform, but from a physical standpoint, too. There’s a whole rainbow of colours coming for the Moto X, and buyers will be able to customise their phone on the web to make it uniquely theirs before it’s shipped straight to them. The Moto X will even be coming in a wooden variant for all you steampunk fans.

We’ve spoken to Motorola Australia this morning about a possible release date of the Moto X, but there’s no news to share at this point. That either means “we haven’t been told” or “we’re not telling you”. Either way, we don’t know. It should come out in the states in the coming weeks, however.

Stay tuned for a hands-on!
