The Solo Flash Movie Has Yet Another Director – Two Of Them, In Fact

It’s been well over a year since the Flash solo movie has had a director attached – but now, Variety reports that Warner Bros. is in negotiations with John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to helm the film.

Additionally, the trade reports that Warner Bros. previously approached Ben Affleck to potentially direct the film, but he declined.

As planned, Ezra Miller will star in the film, which last winter was revealed to be an adaptation of Flashpoint, an Earth-shattering DC storyline with the potential to change the whole DC universe. Affleck is expected to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in the film, and rumour has it that it might act as his final send off. Gal Gadot may also appear as Wonder Woman, though that is also unconfirmed.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are best known for directing the 2015 Vacation remake, but they also co-wrote Spider-Man: Homecoming and were up for directing that before Jon Watts got the gig. They’re the third directors hired for the Flash film; the previous two both left after citing “creative differences”. Their hiring seems to suggest a more comedic tone, which is odd given how impactful Flashpoint is. However, with new management in place at DC and a more set direction after the release of Justice League, it seems very likely everyone is more on the same page this time than with the other projects.

Flashpoint, written by Joby Harold, doesn’t have a release date, but would likely come in 2020.
