The status of Justice League Dark, a potential DCEU movie spotlighting the more supernatural side of the DC universe, is pretty up in the air. Directors have come, directors have left, and though it still appears to be on the Warner Bros. slate, we couldn’t tell you what’s happening with it in clear detail.
We do know, however, that a lot of work has been put into the flick in the past, including pitched ideas from the likes of Guillermo del Toro, who wrote a script for the film, and director and designer Joseph Kahn, who recently shared some of his unused work on Twitter.
Yesterday, he spotlighted a few character designs, complete with fantasy casting, and an animation test that he pitched to DC in 2015. The material went sadly unused, but we can admire it now, at least.

Some of these have my wishlist for actors at the time. Here’s Constantine. pic.twitter.com/byFjYlhSus

And here’s my favourite, Jason Blood imagined as Chiwetel Eijofor, which is inspired casting.

And here’s that animation test, featuring Swamp Thing:
I’m not sure how I feel about the Zatanna design, but broadly speaking, these are fantastic. A pity we’ll never see them on the screen. At this point, though, I’m just hoping we’ll see something on the screen.
