The Success Of Justice League Could Decide The Fate Of The Standalone Flash Film

Flashpoint

On the latest episode of Meet the Movie Press, Variety‘s Justin Kroll claimed Warner Bros. is waiting to see how well Justice League performs before committing to the solo Flash film, and is currently slowing down its search for a director to do so. Kroll added that Aquaman is spared thanks to already being filmed, but solo movies Man of Steel 2 and Cyborg – already distant prospects at the moment in comparison to Flashpoint – could also potentially be in doubt if the reaction to Justice League is not great.

Little Monsters

Lupita Nyong’o and Josh Gad have been cast alongside Alexander England in an upcoming zombie comedy from director Abe Forsythe. In the film, England plays a musician who agrees to chaperone his nephew’s kindergarten class in an effort to get close to Nyong’o’s “plucky schoolteacher”. Competing for her affections is Gad, “the world’s most famous kid’s show personality”. Unhappily for everyone involved, a spontaneous zombie outbreak sours the trip, leading to England and Gad’s characters trying to protect the kids from horrifying death while wooing Nyong’o’s character. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

On the subject of Rey’s parentage, Daisy Ridley stated she was “very moved” to learn the character’s origins in an interview with Yahoo Japan (translated by /Film):

Whatever the answer, I just hope that the moment everyone finds out is an enjoyable experience for viewers. And, though I have known the answer for several years now, the series that Rian Johnson created has turned out to be spectacular beyond even my imagination. To be honest, I was very moved. I think it will be a moving moment for everyone else as well.

The Predator

Appearing as a guest on the podcast Shadow Nation, Thomas Jane revealed the story concerns a group of human POWs held captive by Predators. Boyd Holbrook’s character has been “marked to kill” by the titular aliens after spotting one of their interplanetary crafts.

And he’s a guy they have actually marked to kill him because he’s seen a UFO, he’s seen the Predator ships come down so they lock him up and throw him in with us lunatics. They’re going to take that bus, drive it down to a ditch and shoot us all just to get rid of this one guy. But, of course, we take the bus over and we’re all like “fuck that man, let’s go kill these fucking Predators ourselves” and we’re just crazy enough to believe that this guy really did see a UFO and there’s these aliens out there.

Avengers 4

Speaking with Collider, Mark Ruffalo teased the scope of the latest Avengers team-up.

It’s crazy. And it’s huge. And everyone’s in it. And it’s like this epic opera that spans time and space, with all of the Marvel characters in it. All nine franchises. I mean, it’s mind-boggling. Everyone has their moment to shine. Everyone is still their characters. Nobody feels like they’re doing any kind of exposition or having to push the story. It’s so well crafted. [Writers Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely smashed the script. And it has it all: it’s funny, moving… it’s epic. It’s a Russo brothers classic, like, balls to the wall, you know? It’s gonna be amazing. They’re so talented, and they’re great guys too.

Justice League

Speaking of, here’s a new featurette on the caped crusader for Batman Week.

Meanwhile, Barry Allen has performance anxiety in a new TV spot.

Titans

That Hashtag Show has uncovered a few more character breakdowns from a recent casting call. As the outlet notes, “Daniel Cross” sounds quite a bit like Roy Harper – or even Jason Todd. The episode also speculates “Jennifer Andrews” may be Rita Farr of the Doom Patrol, and that “The Messenger” is secretly frequent Teen Titan antagonist, Brother Blood.

[DANIEL CROSS]Male, 17-19, Caucasian. Athletic, street smart, cocky, yet charming. His life is changed forever when he crosses a crime fighter and is given a new outlet for his rebellious ways. RECURRING GUEST STAR.

[JENNIFER ANDREWS]Female, 20s/30s, Caucasian. Small town, Midwestern girl gone to Hollywood, Jennifer is a star on the rise. She comes across a doe-eyed, All-American and naive in her approach to her art, and life. Jennifer emulates the classic girl-next-door actors from the 1940s and 50s. A bit Stepford-y in her thinking and appearance, Jennifer feels like a woman out of time. RECURRING GUEST STAR.

[CAROLINE]Female, 40s, Caucasian. Forever sleepless with worry, she’s the mother to a young, troubled teen. Seeking a recognisable cameo face or name. GUEST STAR.

[THE MESSENGER]Male, 50s-60s, Open ethnicity. Outwardly a warm and kind presence, he doesn’t seem the type to be powerful or malicious. But he has the ability to turn on a dime and be the most terrifying man you have ever met. Seeking offer only names/recognisable faces…RECURRING GUEST STAR.

Black Lightning

Chantal Thuy has joined the cast as Grace Choi, “a bartender who becomes the love interest of Anissa Pierce”. Debuting in 2003’s Outsiders #1, Choi was the daughter of a Bana Amazon working as a bouncer at a club for Metahumans, before Nightwing and Arsenal invited her to join their newly formed Outsiders.

Blair Witch: The Series

During a recent appearance on the Diminishing Returns podcast, Blair Witch Project co-director Eduardo Sanchez revealed there’s been talk of a potential TV series.

Sanchez: For us, it’s a very natural thing to go and say “Hey, let’s do a frickin’ Blair Witch show and you can say it’s from the original creators and we can bring in a whole bunch of interesting directors to direct episodes.

Diminishing Returns: Would you see that as an anthology thing with prequel episodes or would it all be found-footage stuff?

Sanchez: Well, you know. I can’t really discuss. I think that the idea of a Blair Witch anthology has always been very — just a really interesting thing. You’re close. You’re in the ballpark. You know, and I think it might be one of those things that might be — you know? The more you think about it, you’re like “That might be the perfect… a TV show. You know?” So, we’ll see what happens, but I think that’s the next big thing for Blair Witch. Probably TV.
