Handmaid’s Tale Cleans Up At The Emmys

The nominations for the 69th Emmy Awards were full of buzzy genre hits which all deserved attention for various reasons. But the undisputed winner of all them was Handmaid’s Tale which took home five awards, including one for star Elisabeth Moss and for Best Drama.

The other semi-surprising winner — only in that the last season feels like it was so long ago — was Black Mirror‘s “San Junipero”. Handmaid’s represented dystopia, which has been so popular in the genre, especially on television. “San Junipero” was an uplifting story of the technological future. It’s a truly great moment in television and also an ironic win for Black Mirror, a show famous for its incredibly bleak and dark visions. In fact, creator Charlie Brooker called out the perception of the show, saying that he’s heard the last year described as a long, unending episode of Black Mirror but, he said, “If I had written it, it wouldn’t be quite so on the nose.”
