There’s Already Rumours About Doctor Who’s Next, And Very Different, Companion

Doctor Who

British tabloid The Mirror alleges that the show has already found Jodie Whittaker’s first companion, who will be an older man, a significant change-up for the series.

The paper also says that British actor/presenter Bradley Walsh — who worked with incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall on the UK version of Law & Order — has already been cast for the role, claiming that the casting is “still top secret”, but sources close to Walsh have told the newspaper that the actor has accepted the role to slot in among his various hosting commitments with rival UK channel ITV.

Hellboy

Ed Skrein is currently in talks to play the Jaguar Spirit-possessed Major Benjamin Daimo of the BPRD. [THR]

Aladdin

Numan Acar has joined the cast as Hakim, “the head of the guards and Jafar’s right-hand man”, according to Deadline.

Intelligent Life

Rebecca Thomas (Electrick Children, Stranger Things) will direct Amblin’s Intelligent Life, about a UN ambassador making first contact with a beautiful, humanoid alien. [THR]

Silver & Black

That Hashtag Show claims that longtime Spider-Man adversary Norman Osborn may appear in Sony’s Silver & Black in a voiceover capacity, while the obscure Charles Standish will fill in as the face of Oscorp.

Larry Cohen Anthology Series

Speaking with Broke Horror Fan, the brilliant Larry Cohen revealed he’s teaming with Bad Robot for an anthology series along the lines of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Cohen also stated he hopes Christopher Walken will agree to host.

We’re working on a series now for cable with J.J. Abrams, who is a big fan of mine, and his company, Bad Robot. Each season would be 10 original one-hour Larry Cohen thrillers. We’ve got about two seasons already written, ready to be shot. If that happens, it will be a whole new renaissance, and there will be a lot of my material out in the world, and I’ll direct some of them. That’s what it’s going to be, a thriller anthology. I’m hoping to get somebody like Christopher Walken to be the host and introduce them in a comedic way.

Daredevil

Speaking with THR, Charlie Cox seemed to confirm season three will be the show’s loose interpretation of the Born Again storyline, following where Matt ended up at the end of Defenders.

That’s such an amazing story. Everyone who loves Daredevil loves Born Again. You can’t not. And if that’s the case, then the implications of that would be very exciting to me. That would be great. Having said that, I know we don’t tend to follow any story blueprints too closely, because if you do, then you become a foregone conclusion.

There may be elements from Born Again, but I’m sure there will be elements that are unfamiliar and surprising and different in order for the show to be compelling to fans who know the comics very well. If we start making Born Again page-for-page, then the people who have read it and loved it — the hardcore fans — they won’t have too much drama.

The Strain

Here’s a press release for the series finale, “The Last Stand”.

In the series finale, Quinlan devises a desperate plan, but the costs are enormous.| Eph wrestles with his conscience, Fet undertakes a suicide mission, and Dutch and Gus dig in for battle as humankind makes its final stand against the Master and his Strain.
