The Insanely Influential Star Wars Sourcebook And Roleplaying Game Are Coming Back

If you were a kid in the late 1980s or early 1990s, Star Wars was almost totally gone from the pop culture landscape. However, one place it not only lived, but thrived, was on the page, thanks in large part to two Star Wars volumes: The Roleplaying Game and Sourcebook.

First published in 1987 by West End Games, these books were packed not only with exciting adventures for fans to recreate, but also detailed information that the three original films never got into. Much of what we now consider canon, but that wasn’t explicitly stated in the films, came from these books. The structure of the Empire, the names of ships, alien species — all of them were first named in the Sourcebook. They were the bedrock of much of the Star Wars fandom that followed and now, for their 30th anniversary, Fantasy Flight Games is reprinting them.

These are being republished almost exactly the same as they were back in 1987, which a few minor tweaks here and there. The one big change is that Pablo Hidalgo of the Lucasfilm Story Group wrote a foreword for this new edition. That’s fitting, considering Hidalgo regularly cites these books as being not just as hugely influential on him, but on much of the language of Star Wars that still exists today.

The books will come together in a two-pack released sometime in the fourth quarter of 2017.
