IDW Is Publishing Its Own All-Ages Star Wars Comic

Thought Marvel had the monopoly on Star Wars comics? Think again. IDW announced at Celebration today that it’s starting its own line of all-ages Star Wars books, and we’ve got a sneak peak at the first: an anthology series called Star Wars Adventures.

This isn’t the first time IDW and Star Wars have crossed paths, of course — they’re currently responsible for releasing upcoming collections of the old Star Wars newspaper comics, and other collection books. But Star Wars Adventures marks a big change, considering this is the first ongoing series being made outside the purview of Lucasfilm’s current licensing deal with Marvel for Star Wars comics. Check out a teaser poster for the series by artist Chris Samnee, making its debut here on io9.

Star Wars Adventures — which currently doesn’t have a creative team attached — will kick off a wider line of Star Wars comics aimed at younger audiences at IDW. As the poster art above implies, the series will tell standalone stories set all the way across the Star Wars saga, from the prequels, to the original trilogy, and beyond, into the timeline of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: Adventures is currently slated to kick off this fall as part of a wider “Journey to The Last Jedi” series of tie-in comics, novels, and non-fiction books.
