Much like King Arthur and The Wizard of Oz, the tale of Robin Hood is one that Hollywood will never put aside for long. An origin story starring Taran Egerton and Ben Mendelsohn is due in March 2018, and now there’s another Robin Hood tale in the mix, powered by a big star and a big story twist.

As Deadline reports, Suicide Squad‘s Margot Robbie will play the title character in Pete Berry’s “serious and truly gritty” script Marian. Yes, as in Maid Marian, who in this version will not merely be Robin Hood’s squeeze, but rather a kick-arse warrior in her own right:
After a conspiracy to conquer England in which the love of her life Robin Hood dies before her eyes, Marian picks up the cause to lead her people into a pivotal war. She comes to power, charging into a battle that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom, but that will see her don the mantle of the man she loved. In the process, she rises as a legend herself.
Killing off Robin Hood is a bold move, and this would obviously be a further improvement on the sword-bearing version of the character played by Cate Blanchett in the 2010 Ridley Scott-Russell Crowe version of the story. No director for Marian has yet been announced, nor a timeline for its release; Robbie is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood these days, so there’s a decent chance even more Robin Hood-related projects will be announced before this particular one hits the big screen.
