Lucasfilm Confirms It Won’t Digitally Recreate Carrie Fisher In Star Wars Episode VIII

Carrie Fisher’s passing late last year was a shock to everyone and, in the wake of that shock, many fans openly wondered how it might impact the upcoming Star Wars movie.

And considering the recent Rogue One movie digitally recreated a younger version of Carrie Fisher, some started to wonder — would Lucasfilm attempt to do the same for Episode VIII?

The answer is — thankfully — no.

Addressing “rumours’ Lucasfilm confirmed it would not be using CGI to recreate Leia’s character.

We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.

Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.

It’ll be interesting to see how Episode VIII handles the loss of Carrie Fisher. You get the sense Leia’s character might play a large part in Luke Skywalker’s arc.
