Wes Anderson Just Announced The Title And Cast Of His New Stop-Motion Animated Movie

Wes Anderson just announced that his next movie is a stop-motion animation about talking animals called Isle of Dogs. It’s currently filming and has an incredibly impressive voice cast.

The cast includes many of the usual Anderson players, with a few new additions. There’s Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban, Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, F. Murray Abraham, Tilda Swinton, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Liev Schreiber, Yoko Ono, Courtney B. Vance, and others.

Here’s Anderson making the announcement.

We don’t know what, specifically, Isle of Dogs is going to be about — except dogs, of course — but a few pieces of concept art suggest it’s a Japanese-inspired story. Here’s one revealed on its CrowdRise page:

Really though, it’s a Wes Anderson movie and that should be enough. While some people (unfathomably) don’t love his first stop-motion animated film, Fantastic Mr. Fox, it’s probably in my top three Anderson films, and that’s saying a lot. He’s only gotten better as a filmmaker and storyteller since then (his last film, The Grand Budapest Hotel was his most successful yet), so I’d guess Isle of Dogs will raise the bar even higher.

These films take a long time to make, so it probably won’t be out until at least 2018. No release date is set, though.
