It’s the law of the universe that if you’re able to blow out all the candles on your birthday cake in one breath, whatever you wish for will come true. So why would you ever try to celebrate your 85th birthday by putting 72,585 lit candles on your cake? The fire department would have a hard time putting out that inferno.
Apparently, Sri Chinmoy’s actual wish was to set an official Guinness World Record, and he did just that with this stunt. His other wish, which looks like it also came true, was to ensure there was no edible cake left for anyone to eat at his party. Because in order to obliterate the previous world record, this blaze was left to burn for a full 40 seconds, reducing most of the candles to nothing but blobs of wax.
