This Giant Lincoln Portrait Was Made From Tiny Lincoln Portraits On US Pennies

Video: The next time you clean out your change jar and find yourself with thousands of five cent coins, maybe you could construct a portrait of the Queen. It would look great over your fireplace — if you’re strong enough to lift it into place.

In total it took 14,833 hand-placed pennies to create this 2.75m tall, 1.8m wide mosaic portrait of Abraham Lincoln – that’s $US148.33 ($202) worth of pennies. But the task was made extra difficult given they needed to make sure each penny was clean enough, or dirty enough, to create the proper shading for Lincoln’s likeness.
