Kathleen Kennedy talks about finding a female director for Star Wars, and about the tone of the Han Solo spinoff. There are a few more details about the Tomb Raider reboot’s plot. A surprising Gordon family member is coming to Gotham. Plus, new pictures from Agents of SHIELD, and a snifter of new Moana footage. Spoilers now!
Marvel
After the recent news that Marvel and Fox made a deal over sharing characters for Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, you might have had some hope it could lead to future collaboration between the two studios on Marvel-related movies. Allow those hopes to be dashed, courtesy of Kevin Feige, speaking to Variety about the odds of such a thing happening:
It’s an impossibility at this juncture. We certainly have enough films to keep us busy for a number of lifetimes.
Star Wars
Also speaking to Variety, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy said that finding a female director for the franchise is important to the company:
We want to make sure that when we bring a female director to do Star Wars, they’re set up for success. They’re gigantic films, and you can’t come into them with essentially no experience. We want to really start to focus in on people we would love to work with and see what kinds of things they’re doing to progress up that ladder now, and then pull them in when the time is right.
Han Solo
In the same interview, she also discussed the tone of the Solo spinoff:
This moves closer to a heist or Western type feel. We’ve talked about [Frederic] Remington and those primary colours that are used in his paintings defining the look and feel of the film.
Tomb Raider
Producer Graham King sheds some light on the film’s story.
Well this is kind of what we call a “back to the roots story”. This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father [Richard James Croft] is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and I think that’s what Alicia found so interesting about it. I think the storytelling is really good and I think we’ve got the right crew and a great director and I think it’s going to be really fun making a film like this.
Moana
Here’s a new featurette about the cast gushing about the role of water in the movie, mainly by getting water thrown at them.
And here are even more TV spots, with a few little bits of new footage.
Gotham
James Remar has been cast as James Gordon’s estranged uncle, Frank Gordon, who will appear out of nowhere later in the season.
Frank “is a master at playing both sides and a man who knows how to keep a secret,” according to his official character description. Frank abandoned the Gordons shortly after Jim’s father died in a car crash. It’s been 25 years since he’s last seen his nephew, but he’s back in town to reconnect. There’s a catch though. Frank returns with “a dark secret, one that will upset the very foundations of Jim’s world and force him into a terrible choice between saving his family and saving his city.

Van Helsing
Vanessa Helsing finds herself in a trap in the synopsis for “He’s Coming”.
While on the road to a vampire-controlled camp, Vanessa and Mohamad find themselves in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse against Sam. Sheema discovers a secret that can bring down the ghetto-cell of the Resistance, while Julius takes a clandestine meeting with Dmitri. Ultimately, Vanessa and Mohamad walk into a trap that places one of them in great peril.

Agents of SHIELD
Finally, here’s a new, suitably dramatic synopsis for the show’s midseason finale, “The Laws of Inferno Dynamics”.
S.H.I.E.L.D. and Ghost Rider find themselves unlikely allies when the lives of all of Los Angeles hang in the balance.
And some new pictures from the same episode, in which everyone but Melinda May looks too happy for the above plot synopsis.
