iOS Is Creeping Up, But Aussies Still Love Android

Thanks to Oppo, ZTE, HTC, Sony and Huawei, Android share in Australia increased from 54.5 per cent to 58.2 per cent in the last year – not a bad little bump. But with the launch of the iPhone 7, iOS managed to claw back market share – from 33 per cent to 37.1 per cent since August this year.

And in the Australian Apple Vs Android race, Windows phone is still the banana. Only 2.3 per cent of Aussies use a Windows phone.

Research from Worldpanel ComTech shows iPhone 5s, iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 hold three of the top five places in terms of model shares, with the iPhone SE having dropped to 6th place. Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge hold the third and fourth positions. There was no mention of the Note 7.

For the month of September alone, however, the iPhone 7 holds the number one spot with its share double the share held by the iPhone 6s in September 2015. Based on those early sales, 80 per cent of iPhone 7 buyers previously owned an Apple device, with the majority upgrading from the iPhone 6.
