Scarlett Johansson Still Has Hope For A Black Widow Movie

Deborah Snyder promises that Wonder Woman will be tonally different to past DC movies. One Marvel comics character we expected in Doctor Strange won’t be appearing just yet. Plus, a new look at Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. To me, my spoilers!

Scarlett Johansson Still Has Hope For A Black Widow Movie

Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson spoke to Variety about the prospects of Black Widow getting her movie — although Johansson says that she’s running out of time for how much longer she’ll be interested in playing the role altogether.

Will there be a standalone Black Widow movie?

I would like for it to happen under the right circumstances. I think there’s a lot of opportunity to mine that story line. She’s got a really rich origins story. There’s a lot of places you can go — you can bring it back to Russia. You could explore the Widow program. There’s all kinds of stuff that you could do with it. You could really uncover the identity of who this person is, where she comes from and where she’s part of.

So if it happens, will it be a prequel?

It’s a possibility. There’s plenty of back story. Or not. It could be something else. Where do the Avengers go? They are underground. What happens then? What happens after it all falls apart? There are so many ways you can go. I think it would just have to be very much like its own specific thing. It would have to have its own specific vibe. It would have been totally different than any of the other standalone films. I think if the fans wanted it enough, then it would probably become a reality.

Are you still talking to Marvel about it?

Yeah, of course. I talked to them about it often. It would have to fit in the idea of where they want to go. I’m invested in that character. Marvel is greatly invested in that character. If I did it, I’d have to do it while I still actually wanted to wear a skin-tight catsuit. I don’t know how much longer that’s going to be.

Wonder Woman

Producer Deborah Snyder says the film will be very different to DC’s past movies, in terms of its tone:

Wonder Woman is very different in tone and style than Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. We pick directors who have their own points of view, so that each of our films will have their own personality.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

James Gunn posted a lengthy comment to Facebook promising the movie will “run over” the Bechdel Test.

Women all over the world have been pushed to the sidelines in the interests of men, and their personhood is often forgotten or delegitimized. This is true in the realms of politics and education and religion. But it is also true in the realm of STORIES. That is my personal area of expertise, and that is where I believe women — and girls — deserve the fullness of character that men have often received (I almost said “always received” but then remembered much character writing sucks, regardless of sex).

[…] I am sick of stories where there are a bunch of fully realised male characters and one female character, whose primary characteristic is simply being “the girl” or the personality-less object of some man’s affections. I’m not sick of this because I’m politically correct — those of you who know me know I am far from that — but because it’s boring, and it’s b.s. Likewise, I don’t think only making female characters “strong” is a fix either — you see her all the time these days, the perfect female warrior, who is a reaction to the stories of the past, but who is equally as boring and one-dimensional.

Doctor Strange

Although Rachel McAdams is playing Christine Palmer in the movie, she won’t become Night Nurse just yet, according to Kevin Feige:

I will say that that story line does not play into the movie. As for the future? It’s just as much fun for us as it is for the fans to speculate about that.
