In Australia, You Can Test Drive A Subaru With Car-Sharing

Test drives are the best possible way to work out whether a new car is right for you. There’s no getting around that. But some dealers offer short, supervised test drives that don’t give you a complete representation of what a car is like. Not Subaru, though — Subaru wants you to test drive its new Levorg wagon (yes, that’s its name) for up to a year by using it as a car-sharing vehicle.

The new partnership, between Subaru and DriveMyCar, lets customers rent a Levorg for anything from a week to an entire year, the longest long-term rental that DriveMyCar offers. 10 Levorg wagons across Sydney and Brisbane are available for rental, with insurance included — although you’ll have to sign up for DriveMyCar in the first place to jump in one.

You’ll pay about $53 a day apparently, with pickups from Rosehill in NSW and Eagle Farm in QLD. That’s $370 a week, and while it’s kinda unconventional to, y’know, pay for a test drive, you are getting full use of the car for literally as long as you want it.

DriveMyCar is apparently on an upward tear with close to 30,000 registered users, 61 per cent growth in rentals this year versus 2015 and a 117 per cent jump in the number of vehicles listed for rental. You can even use a DriveMyCar rental to start your own UberX driver account, although you’ll have to wait in line — all those cars are already 100 per cent booked out.
