Disney’s Enchanted Sequel Is Finally On Its Way And I Couldn’t Be More Excited

Enchanted is by far one of the most underrated Disney movies. How underrated is it? I guarantee that half of you reading this right now probably don’t know what the hell we’re talking about. So let me explain why you should still be excited for this sequel.

Enchanted was a 2007 live-action musical starring Amy Adams about Giselle, an animated Disney princess who is about to marry her Prince Charming (James Marsden) when she’s transported to the real world. There, she uses her unique abilities and charm, like the ability to get everyone around her to spontaneously burst into song, to fall in love (with Patrick Dempsey) and defeat an evil witch (Susan Sarandon). The songs are catchy as hell, the performances wonderful and movie filled with an undeniable positive energy. Plus, it’s kind of rare to see Disney release something that’s so aware of itself and kind of subversive of their own princess movie mould. Enchanted is not just a great movie, it’s a smart movie. Don’t believe me? Watch it and forever be changed.

The Hollywood Reporter says the sequel, titled Disenchanted, will be directed by Adam Shankman, one of Hollywood’s go-to-guys for big musicals. Adams is expected to return and they’re hoping to have cameras rolling by in 2017, 10 years after the original.

According to reports, Disenchanted “is set 10 years after the first movie, with Giselle finding herself questioning her happily ever after, and accidentally triggering events that make everyone’s lives turn upside down in both the real world and in the animated kingdom of Andalasia”.

Shankman is a great choice to steer the ship here, but the key will be the songs. They were unreal good in the first film, and were done by legends Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. Here’s a fave:

Things will have to, at least, match that.

Enchanted also co-starred Disney superstar Idina Menzel in a rare non-singing performance. Casting Idina Menzel in a musical and NOT having her sing is a travesty. I’d imagine, if she and the rest of the cast come back, that would be remedied this time. Especially after Let It Go.
