Toy Companies Hasbro And Mattel Will Go To War In A New Amazon Show

If you grew up in the 1980s, odds are your play time was dominated by Hasbro and Mattel. Decades later, the behind-the-scenes rivalry between the two companies will be the subject of Toy Wars, a streaming series from Josh Gad, Josh Schwartz and Seth Gordon.

Toy Wars is based on the book of the same name by G. Wayne Miller. Gad (Frozen, Book of Mormon) will co-star and co-write, Schwartz (The OC, Chuck) will executive produce and co-write, while Gordon (King of Kong, Horrible Bosses) will direct. Amazon owns the rights and will produce the show as a limited series.

I love the idea of a peeking inside any kind of geeky world, and the real life framework behind this idea sounds fascinating. Plus, Gad, Schwartz and Gordon seem like they might be authentic nerds who have plenty of toys from each company in their homes. They’re a great group to bring this story together.
