The First Trailer For The Dog Reincarnation Movie A Dog’s Purpose Is A Sociopathic Nightmare

Video: A Dog’s Purpose is a movie about a dog that keeps getting reincarnated to help people with their lives. That means this is a feel-good movie where a dog dies many, many times. Horrific.

Watch this trailer for A Dog’s Purpose, an Amblin Entertainment film that is clearly meant to be sentimental but veers in some uncomfortable directions:

First, the movie feels like the usual “boy and his dog” story, with the inevitable sad dog death. (I really hate it when the dog dies.) Then the dog tells “jokes” about eating garbage and being reincarnated as a girl.

According to this trailer, the dog gets at least six lives. That’s a lot of dog death for one movie. And the dog has to find his “purpose” each time, which sounds like a lot of work for… a dog.

This movie is based on a book, and from the grimmest Wikipedia summary I have ever read, it looks like the film may have upped the feel-good parts of the story and left out all the euthanizing and abandonment. Or, it hasn’t, and I still don’t want to watch a film where a dog’s soul goes through several periods of horrendous suffering.

Anyway, happy National Dog Day.
