Superfan George R.R. Martin Thinks ‘Outlander Was Robbed’ Of Emmy Noms

There are more than a few Game of Thrones fans who wish that George R.R. Martin would lock himself in a room and finish the damn Winds of Winter already, especially now that the TV show has overtaken the events of the books. And now we have yet another distraction to blame for this delay: Outlander. He’s a huge fan.

This week, he posted on his Not a Blog remarking on HBO’s Game of Thrones receiving 23 Emmy nominations — a field-leading number again this year — and congratulating the honourees. In the comments, a fan remarked that they were excited for the nominees (especially Maisie Williams), but also wished that Outlander had gotten some love beyond the technical categories. Martin responded, tossing another name in from another show for good measure, too:

I agree. OUTLANDER was robbed. All three leads were amazing… especially Tobias Menzies in his double role as Frank and Black Jack.

Eva Green also deserved a nomination for her work in PENNY DREADFUL.

Of course, every year has omissions. And right now it is harder than it has ever been. So many great great shows to watch.

Martin also popped back into the comments to reply to a reader who wondered why Peter Dinklage and Kit Harrington were nominated in the supporting actor category, when their characters are among the show’s most important players. “One big factor is amount of screen time,” Martin responded. “Despite their seeming prominence, neither Kit nor Peter had anywhere near as much screen time as the actors nominated for leading roles.” A side effect of an ensemble show — and one with so many storylines, apparently.
